O my Lord! Expand for me my breast [with assurance] and ease for me my task and untie the knot                       from my tongue that they may understand my speech. (Ta-Ha:25-2)

Meth is halal!??

Ahmad Marzuki, an Indonesian Muslim leader issued fatwa that consumption of meth is halal. “I know methamphetamine is illegal under national law, but I found no evidence against it in the Quran,” (1).

“The suspect is of the opinion that using meth is not haram (forbidden under Islamic law) and helps individuals to recite the Quran. We all know meth is illegal according to national law. It is also an intoxicating substance with countless negative effects,” Samtama told local media. Ahmad escaped from his hometown and returned after 2 months where 2 persons were caught consuming meth is his house and police imprisoned him.  He will be charged under article 114 of the Indonesian Narcotics Law and face up to 20 years behind bars, plus a Rp10 billion ($784,830) fine.

Although, Ahmad is correct that there is no quranic verse explicitly prohibiting meth. First of all, meth was originated in year 1919 and not at time of revelation of noble quran. however, there is general prohibition of all intoxicants. Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whatever causes intoxication in large amounts, a small amount of it is haraam.”
